The Circle Jerks - Phoenix - June 2022

For the first time in many years, The Circle Jerks made it back to Phoenix. They had dates scheduled years ago that were delayed due to the pandemic. The stars aligned, the show was happening, and I was stoked.

Work had been throttling up for me, so taking a full day was not an option. I ended up working half a day and heading out around noon. I'd been in contact with Greg leading up to things. With touring still being a little precarious, we were not going to be able to hang. I wrapped up at noon and met my friend Joe and his family for lunch. I'd not seen them in a while and it was a great way to start the weekend. After eating, I decided to head back to the house and relax a bit.

It hit 5 and I made my way downtown. The weather is brutal in the summer and I had stuff in the car that could melt. I've had it happen before and wanted to avoid it. I got to The Van Buren, parked, and decided to walk around a bit. I don't get much time in downtown Phoenix and like to try and catch something new when I can. After a bit, Jeska hit me up and I met her and Jeremy for a cocktail before the show. We finished our drinks and went to catch a great show.

We missed Negative Approach but got there in time for The Adolescents. It felt good to see the pit going, everyone singing, and live music in the hall again. They played for 45 mins and the stage changed over for the Jerks.

As expected, the show was amazing. They played for 75 minutes, blasting through all of the hits and sounding very tight. The stage banter was fun and playful. Keith gave a little history on the causes for some of the missed shows and kept the crowd engaged. It was amazing to see them and I was very stoked to see Greg back at it. They closed down the show and everyone headed out.

I parted ways with Jeska and Jeremy and got on the road. The band was playing in Tucson the next night and I was absolutely going to be there. I chose to make the drive overnight as I had a number of times before. There was a storm on the horizon and it looked bad. The way down on the 10 was some of the worst scenario driving that I have been in. The sky opened up and the rain was torrential and blinding. The wind was pushing the car around and there was more traffic than would have been expected. The progress was very slow for 30 mins as I got through the storm and back to clear weather. After that, the ride was smooth and clear. I got in, got settled into the hotel, and got to sleep.
