Special Ed Returns To Denver

Despite it being my last week at work, I was still able to travel to Denver for a meeting. I traveled there pretty extensively over the years, so it was nice to be able to go back one final time. In addition to that, my friend Cristy lives there, so it was a nice free trip to be able to say hi to her.

I flew out at 4pm on a Monday. I got to Sky Harbor a little early and easily cleared security as I only had a backpack. I got pretty nostalgic while there, thinking about all of the times that I had been there for work before and how this would be the last time that I was going. The flight out was uneventful and I was pretty easily able to get onto a shuttle to the hotel. I dropped my stuff in the room and headed down to the lobby.

I met Cristy up and we decided to grab some food by the hotel. We chose Ruby Tuesday's and it was a mistake. We got in and got our table. The waitress seemed competent, but was all over the place. She took our order and came back shortly to tell me that they were out of one of the sides. No problem, I ordered something else. She came back again and said they were out of that too. I told her to just ditch it and I was fine without. The food came out and was sparse at best. All told, we had been there 25 minutes. Cristy had to be up early and had a 45 minute drive, but we figured that we had time to grab dessert. We ordered it and it literally took 30 minutes to come out. The waitress also disappeared, so we couldn't get the check. The dessert finally showed up. The cookie in the iron skillet with ice cream was cold, the skillet was lukewarm, and the ice cream barely melting. We scarfed it and got her in the way while I headed back to the hotel. I prepped everything for the next day and got some sleep.

I was not told the agenda until the night before, so that was when I found out that the meeting started at 9am. I got into the room and there was a VP discussion that had to happen that they asked me to step out for. It should have been 30 minutes, but I was out for almost an hour. They finally got me and we got back into the meeting. We got things moving again and were busy until noon when we stopped for lunch. We all ate and then got back into the meeting. We only met for 30 more minutes and it was then over. I had planned on it going late, so I booked a 9:30pm flight home. It was now 2pm and I was done. I got a ride over to DIA.

I tried desperately to get on earlier flights but was not able to. Bad weather on the east cost was backing things up and earlier flights were being filled up with passengers from flights that arrived late and were stranded. I walked around the airport for almost 7 hours and then caught the flight home.

Denver will always have a special place in my heart. It was nice to be back there one more time.
