The Ergs Come Back To Phoenix

The Ergs are by far one of the best bands I have ever heard. Their attitude towards music and songwriting are really nothing less than stunning. I have been listening to them for decades now, partly because their bassist Joe and I grew up together.

They do a national tour every summer and every summer, they come through Phoenix. They always stay over at my place and it is great to spend time with them. This year, they were playing at the Phix gallery. They met me up at 5pm at my house. Everyone was hungry, so we made the tip to In & Out Burger, a staple of touring bands. While eating, we were going over the details of the show. I mentioned that my friend Will, the promoter, had said that they were playing with American Steel. It turns out that American Steel is a huge favorite of the Ergs, so they were all quite excited to be able to see them play.

After dinner, we headed down to the show. Will had front row parking available, so we took the spot and loaded in. It was a 5 band bill, so there was time to kill. Joe and I ran up the road to get sodas. We spoke of girls, touring, and all of the fun things that have been going on. We got back to the venue and took a quick break before show time.

The Ergs finally took the stage for a fantastic set. The crowd was really into it and the show went off really well. They played a little of the old, a little of the new, and a little of the in between. The Ergs came off and American Steel took the stage. It was the first time that I had seen them and I was impressed. They played for an hour or so and the show was done.

The next 12 hours were a mix of doing laundry, drinking, the Best of Chris Farley, more In & Out, and a little sleep. Around 1pm the next day, the Ergs were off. They had a long drive to San Diego to be done, as well as some errands to run. We said our good byes and parted ways.

2 videos from the show are below. The venue was poorly lit, so this is the best that I have got.
