Senses Fail Hit Phoenix Again

Senses Fail were here over the summer but it was a brutal day due to the Arizona heat. Luckily, they came back through in early December when the weather was much nicer. It was a four band bill, with them co headlining with Silverstein. I knew it would be a great time and that I had to be there.

One of the things that I truly value the most in life are the friendships that I make. I've got a lot of friends that tour that I don't get to see that often or talk to much. It always feels good to hear from them periodically and to know that they are as excited to see me as I am to see them. This was the case with this show. I was getting 2AM texts making sure that I would be there and letting me know that everyone was looking forward to seeing me and hanging out. Hearing all of this got me really pumped up.

I had to work in the morning but took off around noon to head out. I made a few pit stops before getting to The Nile Theater. I have not been to this venue in a really long time and it was very nostalgic to be back. I found Gavin and stayed out of the way while the band got their gear in and set up. Once everything was loaded in, we hung for a while and caught up on life. The band still had to soundcheck and do a meet and greet, so I headed out to Main Street to check out some of the music and record stores. I milled around for an hour or so, seeing some cool stuff but nothing that I chose to buy. I was getting hungry so I headed back to the venue.

I met up with the guys and we decided to get Pho for dinner. There was a really great place called Unphogettable that we liked last time and decided to go back to. The food was fantastic and I was able to grab some of the green tea KitKats that I liked from the Asian market that is attached to the restaurant. Everyone was fueled up so we headed back to the venue to hang out until show time.

Back at the Nile, we had a few drinks while Capsize and Hundredth played. Just before Senses Fail took the stage, they had a comedian named Micah Dean Johnson tell some jokes. He did a 7 minute set to get the crowd loosened up and Senses then took the stage.

The show was incredible. The lighting and sound were fantastic. It was one of the best shows that I've seen and heard this year. As usual, the band put everything they had into the show, connecting with the crowd and really engaging them in the set. Greg was filling in for Matt on guitar and did a great job. He had great stage presence, played well, and even dove into and got surfed by the crowd. The band played for an hour and then turned the show over to Silverstein.

We all hung out for a while after the show, having a couple of drinks, telling stories, and listening to music. It was a lot of fun to just hang and relax for the last time this year. I had a long ride home and they had a long ride to Texas so we said our good byes and headed off.
