Senses Fail - Mesa - December 2022

Senses Fail was coming back to town and I was excited. I had missed them last time due to Covid, protocols, and a number of things. With as busy and draining as the year had been for me, I was looking forward to a great day with old friends.

Due to the amount of work and my upcoming vacation, I had to work the morning of the show. As is the usual now, I swore I would be off on time and then logged off late. I'd been in contact with Gavin and let him know when my journey had only 10 minutes left. I got to The Nile Theater, parked, and met up with Gavin. We jumped on the rig, I said hello to new and old, and we plotted the day.

The band needed to get set up and I hung around through that and soundcheck. They had a really great visual show. Lights, strobes, screens with animation and images that tied into the songs, all of it. If you saw them, you know what I mean. It was really impressive to see being set up and the depth that it brought to the performance. With work done, Gavin and I headed to Unphogettable for the standard Pho adventure. We caught up on everything that was going on with our lives, what the new year would bring us, and all of the fun shit talking that old friendship brings. He had a meet and greet so we headed back.

I took some time to check out Mesa. I was really happy to see some community food drops, warm clothes for the homeless, and a nice Christmas tree. I grabbed a little dinner, walked around, and took it all in. When the meet and greet was done, I met up with Gavin and Buddy. We sat around for a while, watched hockey, and discussed a bunch of fun stuff. The venue has a nice upstairs dressing room. We headed there as they prepped for the show.

As always, the show was amazing. The band was tight, the crowd was great, the set was amazing, and it all came together. The animated screens projecting images that tied into the songs were great. The crowd was really cool and the band seemed to have a hell of a good time. I love seeing their energy. After an hour, their was a brief break. They came back for the encore, and the closed the night.

I hung around for a bit after the show. I still had to work in the morning and had a 45 minute drive ahead of me, so it was not very long. I got to spend a few more minutes with everyone, have a few more laughs, and enjoy and appreciate the fact that we were all together again. I sadly said my goodbyes and made the trek to Glendale. I can't wait to see everyone again.
